Veneers Q&A

What are veneers?

Veneers are thin, permanent covers for the front of your teeth that can cover imperfections like cracks, chips, and discoloration that cannot be corrected with whitening treatments or other procedures.

While many people assume that veneers don’t look natural or make your teeth appear too perfect, this isn’t necessarily the case. Veneers are custom fit and designed to match the color of your natural teeth. You can get just one veneer to cover only one tooth or a whole set to give you an improved, symmetrical smile.

What do veneers do?

Veneers can correct a number of cosmetic imperfections that affect your teeth, including:

  • Cracks
  • Chips
  • Discoloration
  • Wide or uneven gaps
  • Abnormally tiny teeth
  • Crooked teeth

If you have these or other imperfections in your smile, Dr. Navarro can help you determine if veneers are your best option. Typically, veneers are a good option for fixing teeth that are visible and aren’t used for chewing (even though they’re quite strong).

How are veneers applied?

The process for getting veneers is often a process that requires several appointments.

If you’re a candidate for veneers, Dr. Navarro will first remove a small amount of enamel from the front of your tooth. This must be done so that the veneers sit flush against your teeth.

After Dr. Navarro removes the requisite enamel, he takes an impression of your teeth to create your veneers. The impressions are sent to a trusted lab, where your veneers are fabricated. This process takes roughly 10-14 days.

After your veneers are created, you return to the office, and Dr. Navarro bonds your veneers to your teeth. Any reshaping or adjusting will happen at this point, and your new smile will be ready to display to the world.

If you plan to have your teeth professionally whitened, this should be done before your veneer treatment since your veneers won’t change color.

Your smile is often the first feature that people notice about you, so you want it to look good. To learn more about getting veneers at Frank Navarro DMD, PA, call the office or book an appointment online today.
